Tax Collector’s Office

The Tax Collector’s Office is responsible for collecting the municipal taxes on real estate, personal property, and motor vehicles in order to provide revenue for the programs deemed necessary and/or desirable to operate the Town.  These taxes become due and payable on July 1 and Jan. 1.  Interest is calculated and collected on all accounts past due on Aug. 1 and Feb. 1.  Liens are filed on all unpaid current real estate taxes in the spring.

Real Estate and Personal Property Taxes will be due Aug. 1st this year. You will have until Sept. 1st, 2017 to pay without interest penalty. This delay is due to lack of revenue figures and a not finalized budget from the State of Connecticut. The Board of Selectmen set the mill rate at 34.368 for Real Estate and Personal Property on July 3rd. Motor Vehicle taxes are further delayed. Please remain patient while we work diligently to prepare our files for billing. The figures should be available online by the middle of the month.

The Tax Collector’s Office is closed every Thursday.   PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN USE THE ONLINE OPTION TO PAY, and view your taxes.

TO OBTAIN AN IMMEDIATE  DMV RELEASE payment must be made in the Tax Office with Cash, Bank check or Money Order. If you use the online option, you will need to wait 10 business days to have the delinquency removed from the DMV.
