In 1825 the Ashford Academy association was formed and shares were sold at twenty-five dollars. The goal of the founders was to provide a school, which would supplement the instruction given at the district schools of the town. Classes were held off and on over the years until 1875 when the last classes of the academy met. The building was used by the town as classroom space until the mid 1900's as the district schools were consolidated.
